Do you have to use Healthy deodorant? Absolutely, yes!
I have used Secret stick deodorant for forever and never thought anything is wrong with it... Until i came across couple of documentaries and articles on internet on how chemically packed cosmetics impact human body.
Aluminum compound, that common brands contain, absorbs by skin and interacts with DNA, what studies show might be one of the reasons to cause breast cancer, Alzheimer's and kidney decease. There isn't a complete evidence that aluminum and parabens cause cancer or linked to those illnesses, but i chose to switch to a non aluminum deodorant with a purpose of lesser use of chemicals on my skin.
Clean living hype that grew in the last decade among society, influenced my switch to my very first healthy deodorant by PiperWai. I saw it on Shark Tank show and purchased it immediately. I was really impressed by the idea and was excited doing really healthy thing for myself.
PiperWai based on activated charcoal, doesn't contain aluminum, parabens or any synthetic fragrances. Packaging of the deodorant is great, and is a good size (77g). My first impression of the the scent of Piper Wai was good, and i did like essential oils smell. I love essential oils period, so that wasn't something i needed to learn to like. For those who doesn't care for anything peppermint, i would advise not to purchase it. I didn't care for the texture, it seem to soft and doesn't go dry on your skin, it starts to melt after an hour or so. It does say no stains and i was avoiding wearing PiperWai at first with light blouses. But than i had to wear one, and somehow one of them got ruined, waxy stains didn't come off. After a workday i could smell the oils and peppermint and was really trying to force myself to get used to texture but after awhile i just couldn't take my waxy underarms anymore. And i have to add, i'm not a very sweaty person, probably average. There is no way i could use this deodorant for my workouts. If you wear it to the gym and decide to jump on pull up bars, get ready to show off your charcoal lined underarms. Literally, black dirty looking lines. So unfortunately, i had to switch back to Secret, Invisible Solid.
My next try for healthy deodorant was a months later, after i came thru another article, that was describing how terrible Aluminum is for women and could be a possible cause for breast cancer. So I went on Sephora.com and got Sedge & Bee Natural Deodorant with Coconut oil by Qhemet Biologics.
It had reviews of 4 stars. I just got it without reading any reviews, because i knew how everyone is sweating differently and it will work differently on everyone.
After opening it, package looked nice, good size (68g) and it smelled awesome. Fragrance is clean and coconutty, it was totally making my morning! Unfortunately, it didn't glide smoothly, the texture was so soft and waxy that i couldn't bare with my deodorant after 2 weeks or so. It smelled great all day, gave me a decent feeling of freshness first hour, but waxy armpits and ton of deodorant left over on my clothing after a long day, was not my favorite thing to deal with. Ingredients list in it was very short - coconut oil, beeswax, baking soda, corn starch, fragrance. I would gladly go back to it, when Sedge & Bee becomes a different consistency.
My third try was a better experience. I came across Lavanila Vanilla + Earth The Healthy Deodorant
The choices of scents are wide, its 12 kinds, and you can purchase a mini version as well. I got Vanilla Earth with patchouli and sandalwood, and was not disappointed. Scent is fresh and not overwhelming, its sweet and woody and clean. Packaging was nice, size of 57g, and deodorant can be twisted back into the tube no problem without ruining the product. Texture of the Vanilla Earth is very smooth, goes on dry and stays dry. No need to press hard to get it on your skin. So far i have used it for a week, work, gym, boat day... I do need to refresh after about 6 hours and i'm ok with it. It feels good all day, even now in the middle of July. I truly feel i can ditch my Secret deodorant and not keep it on shelf anymore, just in case my new deodorant doesn't work out.
I will keep on trying new deodorants... and will add new deodorants reviews as i use them on this page.
